7 Tips To Keep Your Hair Moisturize In The Summer !

  1. Minimum heat to no heat styling
Depending on the hairstyle you commit to on a daily basis, altering your hairstyle during the summer months may not be such a bad idea. For my natural ladies who have naturally curly or coily hair the summer time may be a great opportunity to embrace that curl pattern. I suggest trying two strand twist outs, bantu knots, rods sets, and other natural styles that won't require direct heat.

Now, if you are a person who still chooses to silk press or straighten your natural hair during the summer time it's important to consider how much heat you apply to the hair and how often you choose to do it. I recommend creating time in between where you allow the hair to recover from the straightening or heat styling process. If you currently straighten your hair every two weeks, maybe consider adding another week between the process. Also, be sure to consider the temperature of the water you use when washing your hair, and never use your styling tools on the highest heat.

2. Use a Heat Protectant

If you choose to do any heat styling it's important to use a heat protectant. The protectant acts as a sheild for your hair cuticle against the direct heat. This will help prevent damaged hair that leads to breakage and in some extreme cases hair loss. I recommend using Elle By L Silk Infusion Serum. This serum is enriched with silk elements giving the hair a long lasting silk press, while protectant the hair of heat, and adding a natural shine.

3. Use Moisturizing shampoos

Moisturizing shampoos are designed with extra moisture content that eases the cleansing process keeping the hair soft and protected, while not washing the hairs natural oils away. Though many brands include that a product may be moisturizing its important to read the ingredients. I suggest not using products that aren't sulfate free, paraben free. To start you off try Design essentials Almond and Avocado Shampoo

4. Wear Hats, scarfs, or head coverings

This is the easiest and fastest way to block direct heat from the sun to your hair. A simple scarf, or hat will not only compliment a days outfit but it will protect your hair from outside pollutants that can cause dryness, damage, and maybe even breakage. If you are worried about sweat build up during extreme hot days, I suggest having a great dry shampoo handy.

5. Trim Split ends

Not only should you be trimming your hair for regular maintenance at a recommendation of 6 to 8 weeks or as needed, but it's most important especially during the summer. When you give your hair a great trim at the start of summer, it puts your hair in the healthiest state it can reach at that time. This gives your hair some fight against the heat and damage it could potentially endure during the time. This is in addition to everything else we discussed about. Once the summer comes to end, get a hair trim to remove any split ends, or damage hair that may have been a result from the summer months.

6. Use Water (Hydration)

Believe it or not water is one of the best ways to keep your hair moisturize as it's a basic moisturizing agent for the hair. It's recommended to never comb or detangle your hair without the use of water. In the summer I highly recommend taking days where you rinse your hair and let air dry after a good detangle. Remember to always detangle from the ends up.

7. Create a hair routine and stick with it

The best way to keep your hair moisturize and healthy is to have a hair regimen in place. Whether you are visiting a professional hairstylist bi-weekly or monthly, or doing hair care at home, you should have a routine. The common things to consider for your hair regimen is how often you wash your hair, the products you use during the washing, how much of the products you use, and the order you use them in. I tell my clients hair have a personality of their own and we must listen to it. Hair will tell you what it needs and when it needs it. Once you observe and realize this, creating a hair regimen that works best will be reachable
